Soil

Our Ultimate Soil is a wonderful product for anyone who wants some good old English garden soil, it is made with a balance of the three main soil types: sand, silt and clay. This combination of soil types creates the perfect soil texture for plant growth, and is the ideal garden soil ….. Our Ultimate soil is nutrient-rich and extremely good at building up levels in the garden, as opposed to our Ultimate Topsoil which if spread more than 5cm deep it becomes very soft underfoot as it won’t compact like the Ultimate Soil.

Due to the stringent, fully-audited standards rigorously maintained throughout our supply chain, Ultimate Topsoil is quality assured by regular independent analysis. Unlike ‘muckaway’, it is entirely free of contaminated waste, glass, or building material residue and is devoid of invasive weeds such as Japanese Knotweed. As a fully natural product Ultimate Topsoil does contain annual weeds but these are easily managed using normal weed-control methods.

It is disease-free and contains no pesticide contamination. Typically the texture is clay loam.

Ultimate Soil is analysed to the newly revised British Standard for topsoil BS 3882 : 201

Ultimate Topsoil sources one of the best Soils in the Country, and even though the Top Soil is our best seller, for someone looking to build up the levels in their garden, fill in those old ponds, dress those steep banks with some good soil, then the Ultimate Soil is for you. We have it screened to 8 mm, bagged and delivered to our yards in Olney and St Albans for distribution.

Our Logo shows “you’re in safe hands”, because you certainly are. Our parent company has spent the last 20 years sourcing and distributing these products under its own name and as such has sold in excess of 40,000 tonnes in that time.

The majority of the soil is sourced in Northamptonshire, where the land has previously been growing crops and vegetables.  The reason why we can source such fertile soil is that the sites in question have been earmarked for future development.  The soil undergoes a series rigorous tests to make sure the PH, the fertility and the textural classification is fit for purpose.

And unlike the Top Soil where we want a very low Clay content, with the Soil we are aiming for a clay content of around 20%, this provides the body, the structure and the ability to hold water far better than the very sandy Top Soil that is ideal for levelling off large areas prior to turfing or seeding.

Any supplier can source and deliver soil in a bag, but doing it consistently week in week out throughout the year whilst keeping the product dry and ready for use is the area we excel at. There is nothing more frustrating than having a large bag of wet soil that is impossible to work with so when we say “you’re in safe hands” we really mean it.

With Ultimate Topsoil, the product is only half the story, we feel the delivery of that product is just as important. Using our knowledge, we believe we have the formula that makes for an experience where you feel looked after from the moment you enquire about our products, through to taking delivery and beyond that with our aftercare service. We treat every job as if it is our own project and we want to help you as much as possible, giving you a nominated dispatch day and a time slot for your delivery.

We also deliver our products with lorry mounted forklift trucks, this way we are able to place the bags exactly (within reason) where you want them to be. This means gravel drives, long narrow tracks and putting the bags around the back of the house is not a problem. The only limitation is the width of the track, the forklift trucks are 2.6 metres wide and weigh two and a half tonnes empty.  They are all terrain trucks and will go nearly anywhere (subject to customer agreement). High fences unfortunately cause a few problems as we can’t lift over them.

We specialise in raised beds, and what better service than having a bag of raised bed soil split over your nice new raised beds so the soil flows directly into where you need it to be without you lifting a finger. And the same applies to the soil if that is what you require.

We have gone to great lengths to make sure the product you receive is fit for purpose, the one thing you need to do is to make sure you keep it covered so it stays dry. This soil because of its higher clay content, and water retaining properties, it can be much heavier when it's wet.

We as a company endeavour to try and make your life as easy as possible, and if you would like the bags to be split, so the soil is left in a pile or dotted around a certain area we will accommodate all we can as long as access is good, and you have a sharp knife.
